A new factor for predicting the acoustical properties of oxide glasses

摘要
In this paper we presented a comprehensive study on the prediction of various acoustical properties in PbO-P2O5,V2O5 P2O5, CuO-P2PO5, Cr2O3-doped Na2O ZnO P2O5 and Ag2O-V2O5-TeO2 glass systems. Prediction of ultrasonic attenuation has been carried out on the basis of the recently presented Abd El-Moneim's semi-empirical formula, which correlates the experimentally measured ultrasonic attenuation coefficient at room temperature with the packing density, dissociation energy per unit volume and average first-order stretching force constant of the glass. The correlation between acoustical properties and the ratio between packing density and mean atomic volume has also been studied. The obtained results indicated that, although all data of bulk modulus are predictable from the estimated molar volumes, Abd El-Moneim's semi-empirical formula appears to be not valid for binary V2O5-P2O5, CuO-P2O5 and PbO-P2O5 glass systems. The unsuitability of El-Moneim's semi-empirical formula for V2O5-P2O5, CuO-P2O5 and PbO-P2O5 glass systems has been attributed to the anomalous behaviour between ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and the calculated dissociation energy per unit volume. On the other hand, the ratio between packing density and mean atomic volume can be considered as a new factor for predicting the compositional dependence of acoustical parameters in all the investigated glass systems.
