Genetic basis of hereditary urological diseases .1. Malignant diseases and syndromes.

Genitourinary malformations play a major role in hereditary disease. An in-depth knowledge of underlying hereditary and genetic mechanism facilitate early and exact treatment in many cases. Screening of family members can lead to detection of previously unrecognized abnormalities and the respective treatment can be initiated. Early diagnosis of certain diseases may help in prevention or genetic counseling. This review describes the most common urological hereditary diseases and the underlying genetic mechanisms.
