Kinetic peculiarities of Cd21Ni5 intermetallic growth

Kinetic properties of gamma-phase (Cd21Ni5) growth in the binary system Cd-Ni were studied at hydrostatic pressures of 0.1 - 50 MPa. An unusually long linear stage of growth was observed, and the growth rate was increasing with the pressure. Arrhenius equations for the kinetic and diffusion coefficients describing correspondingly the linear and parabolic stages of growth were obtained. High values of ''dynamic'' diffusion coefficients and low activation energies for both diffusion (Q(D)) and interfacial reactions (Q(B)) were obtained. The mechanism of Cd diffusion in non-stoichiometric Cd21Ni5 phase is discussed.
