Compact solutions for heat recovery from cogeneration modules engines - case study for a 500 kW(e) unit

摘要
The paper addresses the problem of finding appropriate solutions for heat recovery from thermal engines used in containerized electrical generators. The use of special design heat exchangers using corrugated pipes in tight geometries was studied in comparison with classical pipe heat exchangers. The heat recovery targeted both flue gases and engine block cooling. The flue gases - water heat exchanger was the one in - depth studied in order to optimize its design. Two solutions were studied, a tube heat exchanger and a corrugated pipes coil heat exchanger. For the corrugated pipes coils were considered a few possible geometries. Considering the particular heat transfer model for corrugated pipes coils, sizing computational programs were elaborated by the authors. The uses of corrugated pipes improve the design and functioning conditions of the heat exchangers. The benefits are regarding the heat exchanger efficiency, the compactness and the mass of the heat exchanger.
