Embedded 60-GHz mm-Wave Antennas in Non-mm Wave Antennas Integrating a Package (AiAiP) for Motion Recognition in a Full-Screen Metal-Framed Cell Phone

4 embedded 60-GHz mm-Wave antennas in a non-mm -Wave antenna integrating a package (AiAiP) for the motion (e.g., gesture) recognition in a full-screen cell phone with a metal frame also functioning as a long-term evolution (LTE) antenna, 100% glass coverage as the front and back covers, and a high display active-area (A.A.)-to-body ratio beyond 91.7% is presented. For vertical bar S-nn vertical bar <= -6 dB, the simulated bandwidths of the 4 antennas range from 56.86 to 65.16 GHz so that the 60-GHz band (57.0-64.0 GHz) can be supported. The in-band peak realized gains of 3 antennas as a receiving array are higher than 7.10 dBi with the peak of 10.27 dBi. The simulated bandwidths for vertical bar S-nn vertical bar <= -6 dB of the LTE antenna range from 877 to 962 MHz and from 2273 to 2753 MHz to cover LTE Band 8 (880-960 MHz), Band 40 (2300-2400 MHz), and Band 41 (2496-2690 MHz) with antenna efficiencies higher than -3.83 dB in Band 8 and higher than -1.73 dB in Bands 40 and 41. The proposed design is promising to the compatibility of motion recognition and full-screen features for cell phones.
