Molecular beam studies of alcohol (C-1-C-3) adsorption and reaction with oxygen pre-covered Pd(110)

摘要
A molecular beam and temperature-programmed desorption study of methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol has been performed on oxygen pre-covered Pd(110). Two reaction pathways have been identified for all the alcohols studied. The main one involving the formation of water, CO2, CO and hydrogen, the other involving C(ad) + O(ad) recombination caused by the alcohols undergoing C-O bond scission. In addition, methane was produced during ethanol and 2-propanol decomposition.
