Trace element status: condition of the locality and progression

Copper and selenium deficiencies were A found to be more common in beef cattle 4 herds than dairy herds in a study of 9000 livestock to determine the nutritional status of trace elements between 1998 and 2007. The frequency of deficiencies has not changed significantly in 10 years. The important differences between regions can be evidenced, and deficiencies in copper, zinc and selenium are often associated. The status of the thyroid determined by the level of thyroxine is negatively correlated with the concentration of selenium. The iodine concentration is not significantly associated with that of other trace elements and the threshold of deficiency chosen should be discussed because of the very high frequency of deficiency status.
