For the manufacturing of metallic and ceramic microparts in medium and high quantities economic production processes are missing. Powder injection molding as a production process for microparts is very promising, because this technique allows a near net shape fabrication of microstructured parts with nearly no postprocessing steps. Many metallic and ceramic materials are available as powders. This paper discusses the development and investigation of micro powder injection molding (=MicroPIM) of mechanically high loaded microparts in the context of Sonderforschungsbereich 499, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
