A model of seawater optical characteristics in the ultraviolet spectral range on the basis of new data

The low-parametric model of seawater optical properties in the ultraviolet spectral range has been developed, It includes the spectral absorption and scattering coefficients and the phase scattering function providing a full set of optical characteristics required for the calculation of ultraviolet radiation transfer in the water column. The model of spectral absorption is constructed on the basis of new data for pure water absorption, It has been demonstrated that the developed model can well approximate the measured spectral values of the seawater absorption and attenuation coefficients. The contributions of the pure sea water, yellow substance, phytoplankton pigments, small and large size fractions of particulate matter into the seawater optical characteristics have been estimated.
