The characteristics of zinc oxide varistor with different additives

摘要
ZnO based varistor is generally used to protect electrical apparatus from harmful surge attack. Besides Bi2O3 many kinds of additives like Sb2O3, CoO, NiO, MnO, and Cr2O3 are mixed together with ZnO to produce highly reliable and surge-absorbing varistor. First of all the influence of Al-addition on the characteristics of ZnO varistor was examined. The average size of ZnO grains was decreased from about 7 mu m to 2.4 mu m with increase of Al-contents, and leakage current and non-linearity of samples changed. Also with the variation of Si-contents the electrical stability of ZnO varistor was investigated.
