This paper provides an overview of the planning for the future APM(s) at LAX and discusses the alternative alignments for the proposed Integrated Master Plan Concepts. It discusses the evaluation of the APM alternatives in terms of passenger level of service, constructibility, cost, flexibility, and other criteria and issues related to the development of a preferred alternative to be used in the federal and local environmental process. It provides an assessment of the appropriate class of technologies that meet geometric requirements, provide capacity to satisfy the passenger demand, and meet level of service goals. The primary goal of this planning process is to develop an airport master plan that can accommodate the projected growth in airport operations, balance the needs of the airport users with the operational requirements of the airport, minimize the negative impacts of airport growth to the surrounding community, integrate the APM(s) with the existing and planned future airport facilities and roadways, and, through phased implementation, permit continued operation of the airport during construction.
