Photostimulated luminescence and thermally stimulated luminescence of (Ba,Sr)F1+xBr1-x-Eu2+

The influence of the chemical composition on the photostimulated luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of BaFBr-Eu2+ are investigated. It is shown that incorporating an excess of F- in BaFBr-Eu2+ causes a change in the type of F centres that are created by X-ray irradiation, which is most clearly observed in the thermoluminescence spectra. An analysis of the TL peaks that can be assigned to F(Br-) and F(F-) centres is reported. The best PSL properties are obtained for samples with fluorine excess and in which Ba2+ is partially replaced by Sr2+.
