Impact of EU regulations on forest condition assessment and air pollution control

Growing concern about forest damage caused by air pollution has led to a comprehensive monitoring of forest condition and has given impetus to air pollution control policies in the countries of UN/ECE and the EU-Member States. The present paper describes the mandatory and optional parts of the EU-Regulations on forest condition assessment in detail. Furthermore, an overview of the most important EU-Regulations and Directives on air pollution control is given. Comparisons are drawn with those activities currently performed in non-EU countries under CLRTAP.
