摘要
Leg edema due to iliac vein compression is a rare complication of bladder overdistention. We reported an 83-year-old man presented to our emergency department for evaluation of bilateral leg swelling abruptly developed in recently 2 days. He recalled his symptoms of aching, crampy pain in the legs that comes and goes for 1 week. Physical exmination revealed a palpable bladder up to the level of the umbilicus. A contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen revealed an overdistended bladder with compression of the calcified iliac artery and right common iliac vein without thrombotic obstruction. After urinary catheter was inserted into the bladder and 3150 mL of clear urine was drained, his edema of bilateral leg resolved completely 1 day later. During hospitalization, the patient underwent transurethral prostatectomy. After the surgery, the patient recovered well without recurrence of leg edema or urinary retention.
