摘要
Toluene was evaluated as an electron donor for the reductive dehalogenation of PCE (perchloroethylene) under sulfate reducing conditions. Microcosms were constructed using aquifer material and groundwater from a sulfidogenic site contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents. Amended toluene was oxidized with sulfate as the electron acceptor. The amendment stimulated slow dehalogenation of PCE, forming vinyl chloride (VC) and ethylene. Details of the stimulating process are unknown but may involve the fermentation of biomass formed during toluene degradation.
