Reacting 1,3-bis[2-(p-formylphenoxy)ethyloxyl-p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 2 with 1,3-di(hydrazinocarbonylmethoxy)-p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 4 by 1 + 1 intermolecular condensation under diluted condition, a novel biscalix[4]arene derivative 5 containing Schiff base and amide units was prepared in high yield. The structures of all new compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, H-1 NMR and ESI-MS spectra, which indicated that calix[4]arene units adopt 1,3-disubstituted pattern and cone conformation.
