Structural investigation of xMnO•(100-x)[As2O3•PbO] glass system by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies

xMnO-(100-x)[As2O3 center dot PbO] glass system, with 0 <= x <= 5 mol%, was studied by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies in order to determine their structure and to point out the role of each component of the glass system in the formation of the glass network. FT-IR spectrum of the glass matrix shows the presence of AsO3, PbO4 and PbO3 structural units. The Raman spectrum of the glass matrix confirms the structure proposed by FT-IR. By both FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies, the presence of structural units characteristic to MnO was not directly observed. (C) 2007 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
