Development of Digital Image Processing Software for Vikomed X-ray Equipment

This paper describes the Vikoworkstation (VW), an image processing software that has been developed by Vikomed and its partners and is available open source as freeware. This package has been implemented by ImageJ suite platform and java swing/awt for interface user. Additionally, communicated functions to peripheral devices that attach importance to develop by embedding communication protocol to control parameters for several brands of generator and software development KIT to receive image from some brands of digital flat panel detector (FPD). The software can assist users in accession of patient health's history, flexible diagnostic acquisition processing, and generator console panel. For all the communication, imaging management and related data whose description is covered by DICOM standards, their evaluation is achieved by following those standards such as DICOM Modality Worklist, DICOM Print and DVD/CD Burning with viewer. Demo version was made available in 2015 and was applied for the testing period before it is going to test for achieving the physical characterization of several clinical systems for digital radiography and mammography. This software is potentially beneficial to a variety of users in study and commercial packages. The study package freely supports medical physicists, physicians and engineers, etc. with studied purpose only. And the remaining package, that has full function of generators and digital detectors connection, are packaged together with x-ray machine for commercial products of Vietnam Korea Medical Corporation (Vikomed). The authors validated the software by comparing image quality with those obtained with other dedicated programs, achieving a very good agreement.
