摘要
The co-editors of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication journal share their views on the changes that have taken place in the field of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) over a period of time. They also discuss the challenges that will be faced in the future when the mission of enhancing communication for all people with complex communication needs is attained. Significant changes have been introduced in AAC from its early stages of development, including changes in the demographics of the population that uses AAC, changes in the scope of communication needs that need to be considered, and changes in the AAC systems that are available. An increasing number of individuals are receiving AAC services with growing evidence of the potential benefits of AAC for a variety of populations, and the increased interest in and availability of AAC technologies.
