摘要
If the ancient history of rabies has hardly caught the attention of historians up to now, it's probably because the documents on the question are rare. The synthesis of elements of information (scattered in southern historiography) and of unpublished data allow us to note that rabies appeared first occasionally in the middle of the 17th century in the Midi toulousain. From the beginning of the 18th century onward, it has slowly become an endemic disease in the country, causing fear among the population and arousing more and more attention in the medical profession. As we advance in time, the phenomenon seems to be more present. This explains what seems to have been a real epidemic of rabies in this area in the late 1770s and the early 1780s. The record of what we know on this phenomenon and its evolution (ignored up now by historical research) is given here.
