False aneurysm of an intercostal artery after thoracoscopic sympathectomy

Thoracoscopic sympathectomy has been promoted in the literature as a safe procedure for hyperhidrosis, with remarkably few major side-effects. We describe a young lady who was recently transferred to our unit with a massive haemothorax 4 weeks after such a procedure. At emergency thoracotomy this was found to be caused by a false aneurysm of an intercostal artery.
