The thermodynamic properties and molecular dynamics of (NH4)(2)Zn(SO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance observations. The first mass loss occurs near 350 K (= T (d)) and is interpreted as the onset of partial thermal decomposition. The temperature dependences of the spin-lattice relaxation time in laboratory frame T (1) and in rotating frame T (1 rho) for H nuclei were studied near T (d) and T (C1). The increase in T (1) near T (d) seems to be related to the ammonium protons, and the abrupt decrease in T (1 rho) near T (d) can be explained due to the loss of H2O.
