摘要
In this essay, I consider the distinction between experimental scientists and clinicians which has been used to structure most writing on the history of modern medicine. The most immediate aim is to draw out the sociological presupposition of this historiography, to show their problematic nature, and to suggest an alternative, ethnographic approach. The ultimate aim is to open some space which may help to re-establish historiography as a political practice.
