摘要
This chapter reports on the development of a micromachined thermoelectric flow calorimeter. Its reaction chamber volume is 5 mu l housing approximately 1 million biological cells. We have optimized the design based on equal weight assignment to signal, signal-to-noise ratio and time constant. Calculations predict a sensitivity of 200 V W-1 and a time constant of 50 ms. Its minimal volume and small time constant make it applicable in modern drug screening. The choice of materials and dimensions is a function of the biocompatibility needed in the device.
