摘要
A three-tier wireless sensor network was developed and deployed in Manhattan, Kansas, to remotely monitor sediment concentration and movement in real time. Sensor nodes, gateway stations, repeater stations, and a central station were strategically deployed to insure reliable signal transmissions. Antennas of different types were tested to achieve robust, long-range communication in a wireless-hostile environment. A commercial cellular carrier was used to relay sensor data to the Internet. Packet loss and transmission error were recorded and analyzed to assess the effectiveness and reliability of the three-tier WSN.
