摘要
Although stereotypes suggest that aging is associated with dramatic changes in sexuality, a review of relevant literature suggests otherwise. Although age brings a decline in various aspects of sexual function, sexual satisfaction typically remains stable in later life. Couples who remain healthy and who place a high value on sexuality can make appropriate adjustments to age-related changes. However, sexuality can be placed at risk by health issues, ageist stereotypes, or lack of flexibility. An interdisciplinary approach that explores both medical and psychosocial factors in evaluating and treating sexual dysfunction in older adults is essential.
