摘要：

This paper describes the design of a low cost and versatile microcomputer-based remote terminal unit that was commissioned as part of a SCADA system for an oil and gas company in the Middle East. The remote terminal unit talks to the master or host computer using a leased telephone line. The changes in field inputs are reported by the remote unit to the host computer in real time while control outputs can be sent by the host computer to the field immediately. One unique feature of this remote unit is that it performs gas flow calculations and serves as a backup to a sophisticated flow computer installed at the remote site.
