摘要
White liquor is a possible alkali source for oxygen delignification or bleaching. However, to deliver full value in bleaching extraction stages, white liquor should not contain partial oxidation products. Complete oxidation of white liquor requires significantly higher temperatures and pressures than partial oxidation and requires higher-grade metallurgy. An alternative to complete oxidation is to remove sodium thiosulphate from partially oxidized white liquor. This separation can be achieved by using ion-exchange technology. During pilot unit trials of this sodium thiosulphate removal (STR) system, about 93% of the sodium thiosulphate was removed. Traces of sodium sulphide present in the liquor were also removed efficiently. The caustic solution recovered from the partially oxidized white liquor was evaluated in a DOEpD1E2D2 bleaching sequence and was found to perform as well as fresh sodium hydroxide.
