Reactions of bis-salicylaldehydato copper(II) with valine are found to produce the corresponding aminoacid Schiff base complex Cu(L)(H2O) (H2L = tridentate Schiff base derived from salicylaldehyde and valine). The compound is characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic, electrochemical properties and ESR data. Crystal structure analysis of the copper(II) complex confirms square planar environment comprising of NO3 framework of ligands (orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), Z = 4, a = 7.3835(3) angstrom, b = 12.8846(7) angstrom, c = 27.3973(10) angstrom, alpha = beta = gamma = 90 degrees).
