After implementing outage management and reporting systems, many companies now have substantial access to a broad set of reliability metrics and outage history. This provides companies much better information to identify metrics that may drive specific performance and focus greater on areas warranting improvement. It further supports optimizing the methods to achieve that improvement. One company uses a combination of system and area reliability metrics, combined with geospatial outage data rendered to select target improvements and methods. With this combined tabular and geographic view a variety of improvement techniques can quickly and consistently be developed, costs and benefits estimated, prioritized and then selected projects implemented. Historically, this approach has resulted in substantial improvements in outage performance, compared to prior periods.
