摘要
Energy saving and environmental protection have become major focus areas of concern in the present scenario as it is a known fact that the usages of conventional fossil fuels are increasing day by day. Hence there is an essential need to find alternative fuels. Therefore, the investigations have been mainly focused on decreasing the consumption of liquid fuel by using alternative gaseous fuels. Spark timing, flow rate of gaseous fuels, operating cylinder pressure, Air-fuel ratio, fuel injection, and compression ratio are some of the parameters that need to be analysed and optimally exploited for better engine performance and reduced emissions. In this study, a comprehensive review of performance, emissions and combustion studies of acetylene fuelled internal combustion engines are done and it is concluded that acetylene can be considered as a prominent alternate fuel for IC engines and can be used without major modifications in the existing engine.
