摘要
Objective: Description of a complicated course after removal of an oesophageal foreign body in a dog. The foreign body caused a mediastinal abscess. Material and methods: Case report on a West Highland White Terrier. Results: After removal of the foreign body, a significant improvement of the general state of health and food uptake was observed. However, after two days the condition deteriorated again. Diagnostic measures (endoscopy, radiography, sonography) revealed a mediastinal abscess. As the owner did not consent to surgical treatment, the abscess was punctured and rinsed under sonographic control via liver and diaphragm. The patient could be released after 10 days with undisturbed general state of health. Conclusion: Transhepatic punction is an option to handle an mediastinal abscess.
