Influence of Tungsten Concentrate Content on Microstructure and Properties of (Fe-Cr)-Al Alloys by Laser Sintering

0.5 wt%, 1 wt%, 3 wt% and 5 wt% tungsten concentrate powders were added into (Fe-Cr)(40)-Al(60) powder, followed by compacting to obtain powder compacts. The in-situ particle reinforced composites were prepared by self-propagating laser sintering. Effects of tungsten concentrate powder content on microstructure and properties were investigated by OM and XRD. In addition, density, porosity, hardness, wear resistance and other macro-mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the sintered alloy were also tested. The results show that the sintered alloy phases are mainly AlFe, AlFe3, Al2O3, W, WO3 and (Al-Fe)(4)Cr. The microstructure of the sintered alloy is fine and homogeneous with dispersed distribution in the matrix. When the tungsten concentrate powder content is 1%, the maximum density of 3.969 g/cm(3), the minimum porosity of 9.01%, the highest hardness of 13 210 MPa, the lowest wear rate of 0.47 mg/mm(2), the maximum corrosion potential of 325.790 mV and the minimum corrosion current density of 182.2 mu A center dot mm(-2) are achieved. The best corrosion resistance is also realized.
