Transmittance properties of one-dimensional metallic-dielectric photonic crystals in near-zero permittivity

摘要
In this paper, we have discussed theoretically the transmittance characteristics of the one-dimensional metallic-dielectric photonic crystals in UV regions. Theoretical modeling depends mainly on the Drude model and the characteristic matrix method. The numerical results are used to investigate the response of the metallic layer permittivity in UV regions and its feedback on the transmittance properties of our periodic structure. Wherein, the permittivity of the metallic layer in both real and imaginary parts is almost near-zero in the wavelength that corresponds to the value of the plasmon frequency of this metal. Thus, a metallic layer with zero or very low permittivity could maintain some special features of interest that may significantly demonstrate the transmittance properties of our structure. The role played by some parameters, such as the polarization mode and the structure periodicity, on the transmittance properties of our structure is considered here. The current design provides a very narrow passband filtering feature to act as a multilayer Fabry-Perot resonator in UV short wavelength regions without introducing a defect layer inside the periodic structure.
