Gear specification, gear measurement, and gear accuracy standards

This paper discusses some of the improvements which have taken place over recent years in gear measuring equipment. It also reviews the changes to the new ISO accuracy standards which have been published and describes various codes of practice which have been prepared to ensure that gear manufacturers are obtaining the best performance from the measuring equipment that they have been invested in. The importance of correctly specifying the geometry, accuracy specification, gear blank accuracy and material specification to ensure that the finished product meets the desired requirements is emphasised.
