摘要
Information Literacy (IL) is recognized within our Malaysian education system. However, a few research pointed out several factors that could be responsible for impeding the IL education developments, including lack of curriculum resources and framework, lack of leadership, and lack of necessary skills and understanding to implement IL among the principals and teacher librarians, in particular, and the school communities as a whole. It seems that the development and progress of IL implementation into the education system has been gradual. One of the factors found appears to be associated with the culture and values of the education system. In this paper, the similarities and differences of IL education and education system are observed in order to comprehend the extent to which both are conceptually and practically compatible. The main aim of this comparison is to describe and understand the past events or fundamental background of both education approaches which begin with reviewing the discussion on the purpose of the research, the origin and philosophy of the two systems, followed by their aims, pedagogy and contents as well as the factors affecting the IL implementation.
