In summary, multi-slice average dose and CTDI are simple dose descriptors of the CT dose (Tables 14, 15). They are useful for comparison and optimization of techniques. Conversion factors may be applied to determine organ doses and associated risk factors. They may be extended to provide a measure of the CTDIvol. They are limited in application to patient-specific dosimetry. They are not directly applicable to CT automatic exposure control. The multi-slice average dose and CTDI do not account for volumes irradiated.
