Storungen der Schluckmotorik und des Speichelmanagements bei kritisch kranken Patienten sind haufig und ursachlich fur Aspirationspneumonien, konsekutiven Tracheotomien und verzogern oft die enterale Ernahrung. Zahlreiche Studien haben gezeigt, dass die Dysphagie die Erholung von einer schweren Erkrankung verzogert, Malnutrition und Kachexie induziert und Beatmungsdauer sowie Krankenhausverweildauer erhoht.
