Management of penile fracture

Penile fracture is a rare urological emergency described as the traumatic rupture of the tunica albuginea of an erect penis, it usually occurs during sexual intercourse. Patients typically describe immediate detumescence, snapping sound and subcutaneous hematoma as result of the injury. Prompt surgical exploration and corporal repair is the most effective therapy. A ureteral should be systematically looked after. Although a majority of cases can be diagnosed from the history and physical examination alone, radiographic studies can help in the diagnosis of unusual cases and impact on the surgical treatment. The complications of these fractures are principally erectile dysfunction and deviation of the erect penis. (C) 2015 Published by Elsevier Masson SAS.
