摘要
Is it important to study local bird names? Studies regarding birds' local nomenclature are one amongst various research interests in Ethno-ornithology. The aim of this study was to answer the following question: why is it important and necessary to study local names of birds? Data here discussed were collected through literature survey and artificial participant observation. Research and comprehension of local names can help on the discovery of new bird species, on the description of behavior unknown to formal science, on the record of new occurrences, preparation of more efficient and precise inventories, localization of threatened species, correction of possible mistakes from literature records, and to achieve a better comprehension of the relationship between humans and birds.
