摘要
Video transmission over the wireless network faces many challenges, and the most critical challenge is packet loss. Therefore, Forward Error Correction (FEC) is used to recover the packet loss by adding extra packets known as redundant packet or parity packet. Currently, FEC techniques have been adopted with Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) to overcome packet losses and avoid network congestion in various wireless network conditions. The number of FEC packets needed to be generated adaptively because normally wireless network has been varying network state and faced burst error condition. The number of FEC packets needed to be generated adaptively because normally wireless network has variation in network condition and faced burst error network. Thus, this work is conducted to estimate the suitable smoothing factor value to determine the average queue length according to the packet loss rate over the burst wireless error network. The proposed enhancement namely Enhanced Adaptive FEC (EnAFEC) was tested with the GE channel model which is closer to the real wireless error condition that represents the burst wireless network. The results from experiments showed that proposed mechanism outperformed other Adaptive FEC mechanisms in terms of recovery efficiency. The minimal amount of FEC packets was generated and able to recover high packet loss. It is also found that the proposed mechanism achieved excellent video quality at the receiver end.
