Water Resources Conservation in the Huaihe River toward Sustainable Development

The Huaihe River Basin is an important base for food and energy resources in China. Heavy flood and draught disasters happened frequently in the history, and water pollution becomes a serious problem in recent decades. Since pollution control has been implemented for ten years, water quality has been improved, but large gap still exists between present situation of water quality and the target set by the State. After reviewing history of water pollution control, some measures for controlling water pollution and conserving water resources are raised to realize a virtuous circle of ecological system.
