The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society, Inc. (TMS) Light Metals Division sponsored last March 2008 a plenary session that aimed to discuss sustainability, climate change, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction issues. The sessions was attended to by 250-300 participants, making it one of the most well-attended event of the TMS 2008 Annual Meeting. Speakers at the event discussed issues such as the environmental challenges facing the global aluminum business, the latest reports from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change, the rapid growth in energy consumption, preventive actions to limit global CO2 emissions, and many others.
