摘要
The article examines the influence of porosity on the brittleness of eight types of rocks. Laboratory core drill and saw machines were used to prepare cylindrical specimens with diameters of 56.70 mm, but with variable length-to-diameter ratios (L/D). The ends of the cores were smoothed to within 0.02 mm, and perpendicularity was kept within a limit of 0.05 mm. Brittleness is a complex function of lithology, composition, temperature, porosity. Brittle rocks, particularly crystalline rocks, have low strain at failure, while soft rocks could have relatively high strain at failure. Porosity is one of the governing factors on rock strain. Increase in the rock porosity leads to increase of its strain at failure, and finally decrease in its brittleness. It may be reliable for a rock with low mineralogical variety but that is not the only reason to reduce brittleness in crystalline igneous, metamorphic and some of the sedimentary rocks with high mineralogical variety.
