Eosinophilic cholecystitis in association with Clonorchis sinensis infestation in the common bile duct

Since the original description of eosinophilic cholecystitis (EC) by Albot et al. in 1949, an additional 17 cases have been reported in the literature. Eosinophilic cholecystitis is a rare form of cholecystitis and is clinically indistinguishable from the predominant form of calculous cholecystitis. Histologically, it is characterized by a dense, transmural leukocyte infiltrate composed of more than 90% eosinophils. The association of EC with Clonorchis sinensis (CS) has not been previously reported in the literature. The author reports two patients with EC associated with CS infestation of the common bile duct.
