ICTs for Safety & Security

From cyber-security to cyber safety and security, the new paradigm, a risk based approach that extends the interest of cyber technologies to safety and security in general. This means that we will not deal with cyber-security, law enforcement and critical infrastructure protection, these topics deserve entire chapters each. The second section outlines recent developments of research and solutions in safety and security area, they will benefit industrialised countries but even more emerging countries, human safety and security, security in the field of food, water, medicines, and last but not least disaster prevention and mitigation are some of the potential benefits. Particularly relevant for the African continent are slow onset disasters such as desertification, drought, pollution and more. The third section basically aims to provide some concrete examples; we will explore a short selection of available solutions in the field of safety and security. The fourth section explores emerging technologies in both fields from IoT to drones.
