A new effective calibration method for machine vision system

An effective and accurate method for charge-coupled device (CCD) camera calibration is described in this paper. Furthermore, the error model for assessment of this calibration method and experiment results are given in this paper. While using a CCD camera with wide angle lens, the distortion coefficients, the image optical center, the effective focal length and the distance between the optical center and the object need to be calibrated A cylindrical standard gauge block is used in this calibration method thus the new method is mathematically simple because the use of a set of points or a set of parallel lines on a plane is avoided.
