摘要
A study was conducted to demonstrate a facile and scalable method for separating powdered nanodiamond (ND), prepared by a static high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) method. The method was also used to provide bulk quantities of ND particles. The study revealed some of the significant characteristics of the HPHT ND, such as high crystallinity, few impurities, and high compatibity of the surface chemical structure. The median size of the separated ND was also tuned from 4-25 nm, by controlling the conditions of the ultracentifugation. It was observed that the distribution of the smaller size of ND particle is narrow, ranging from 2-9 nm. It was also observed that the isolated ND in water were stable, without any precipitation and aggregation. These observations indicated that ND particles around 4 nm in size required 1 hour for bath sonication and 30 minutes for centrifugation, to obtain small ND particles.
