Conceptualization in ideational theory of meaning: Cognitive theories and semantic modeling

The ideational theory of meaning is the theory according to which meanings of words are subjective ideas. In this article, we propose a visual modeling using Unified Modeling Language (UML) which, we believe, clearly represents the semantic of this theory. Additionally, we modify and extend classic ideational theory to provide answers to some of its defects, for instance, second-order concepts. We will show that our modeling is compatible with the cognitive theories about conceptualization such as hierarchical, network and prototype theory. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
