Enhanced expression of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) and its type I and type II receptors for in human glioblastoma tissues

The expression of transforming growth factor-beta s (TGF-beta s) and their receptors were analyzed in 16 gliomas of various degrees of malignancy and compared with five cases by immunohistochemistry techniques. We here ascertain that TGF-beta s and their receptors are expressed in human malignant glioma tissues as well as in human malignant glioma cell lines, analyzed by immunohistochemistry. TGF-beta s and TGF-beta type I receptor (T beta R-I), type II receptor (T beta R-II) are observed in human malignant glioma cell lines. Moreover TGF-beta 3 and T beta R-I are strongly observed in cytoplasm of spindlelike cells and fibllilary astscytes surrounding of endothelial proliferated vessels or necrosis of malignant glioma. As the control, in low grade astrocytoma and gliosis, expression of TGF-beta 3 and T beta R-I are less and very Little.
